UK/EU legal sizes

Size limits set by local fisheries are legally binding and it is a criminal offence to take any fish below these sizes.

CrabBag
supports the imposition of minimum catch sizes as a method of supporting fish stocks. Legal sizes of fish and shellfish can vary throughout the EU and within UK. The regulations can be confusing. For this reason, at the time of manufacture the minimum catch sizes used by CrabBag are either equal to or exceed the statutory minimum sizes set by the EU and the UK and those recommended by the Marine Conservation Society.

You should remember, however, that local fisheries can set their own minimum sizes and seasons so you must check your local limits and take any local by-laws into account when assessing your catch.

Official Defra guidance and details of EU regulations can be found here (search for "minimum fish sizes") Local fisheries contacts can be found here.
